| Position Summary | The visual media designer is a storyteller with a creative mind, innovative ideas, enthusiasm and high energy. As part of the University Marketing and Communications visual media team, they will design high-impact visuals to help tell CMU’s story. This person has a deep curiosity to learn and stay current on the latest trends to communicate messages and successfully engage with multiple audiences in measurable ways. They will provide strong conceptual and strategic thinking skills, superior technical design skills, and an understanding of how typography, color, photography, and animation support communication goals. This position is also responsible for designing innovative and successful campaigns across multiple mediums including print, web, mobile, etc. |
| Required Qualifications | Bachelor’s degree, preferably in graphic design, art, or a related field or a combination of education and experience equivalent to four years. Fluency in Adobe Creative Suite, including After Effects, InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop. Strong conceptual design and typography skills. Comprehensive production skills and thorough knowledge of printing processes. Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a creative team. Proven ability to work with a wide range of clients. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Adept at managing multiple projects simultaneously. |
| Preferred Qualifications | Demonstrated experience working with Adobe XD and Figma. Demonstrated experience working within an established brand and graphic standards. Proficiency using project management tools. Demonstrated experience in higher education settings. |
| Duties & Responsibilities | Tells stories visually and creates compelling and inspiring narratives. Suggests and develops creative and innovative ideas. Collaborates with content creators, social media staff, web designers, photographers, etc. Stays abreast of the latest design technologies and continually experiments with how to apply them to creative projects. Creates animations and motion graphics for web-based advertisements and to support video edits. Designs wireframes and web page layouts in collaboration with marketing and digital teams. Meets with clients and the associate director of visual media to plan and discuss projects. Writes specifications for publications and works with printers on design and printing issues. Manages multiple projects successfully in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment. |
