JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Employees in this classification will be stationed at a designated school crossing during the time periods of approximately 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. when school is in session.

While on duty, the school crossing guard will wear a designated regulation vest and assist pedestrians crossing a street or highway to and from school, stopping vehicular traffic when necessary with a hand held STOP sign. This employee will, under the training and supervision of the Livonia Police Traffic Bureau, work with school Safety Patrol members.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND APPLICATION PROCESS

At the time of application, an applicant must:

  1. Be a citizen of the United States, or a resident alien with the right to work in the United States, and
  2. Be 18 years of age or older; and
  3. Have a high school diploma or a valid equivalency certificate; and
  4. Have acceptable hearing and visual acuity

Previous employment with public contact is highly desirable.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to follow departmental policy
  • Ability to establish and maintain harmonious relationships with other employees and to deal tactfully with the public
