Summer Athletics & Camps Assistant
CLASSIFICATION: Student Employee
DEPARTMENT: Athletics
LOCATION: Grand Rapids – Lettinga
REPORTS TO: Manager of Athletic Facility/Events
PAY RATE: $13.73

SUMMARY:

This position acts as a general assistant to the department, performing general business functions including but not limited to general office work, helping with equipment, field maintenance, and any other work related to daily operations. These responsibilities are performed in an ethical manner consistent with the University’s mission, vision, and values which include diversity, equity and inclusion.


RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Provide GREAT Customer Service.
  2. Coordinate with camp directors for needed equipment.
  3. Prep and tear down fields and gyms for camps.
  4. Coordinate with facility manager for camp schedules.
  5. Assist with laundry and distribution of athletic equipment.
  6. Assist with daily business operations of the athletic department.
  7. Administrative support functions for the department including but not limited to: greeting visitors, as well as answering and routing incoming calls, creating, maintaining and updating files.
  8. Understand and abide by all external and internal regulations and policies. This includes NCAA, GLIAC and national affiliations associated within athletics or other role specific regulations.
  9. Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours as an undergraduate student or 3 credit hours as a graduate student while meeting the standards of academic progress.
  • Must be able to communicate professionally to coaches, players, and fans.
  • Must be able to work an irregular schedule, evenings or Saturday as needed, additional hours during peak times or as required.
  • Previous customer service experience preferred but not required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work accurately and effectively with computerized data systems (PC and mainframe).
  • Excellent interpersonal skills that transcend diverse audiences; communicating to university customers with positive attitudes toward change, confidentiality, and conflict resolution.
  • Must be highly motivated and solution oriented with a high degree of integrity, ethics, and dedication to the mission of the university.
  • Business office environment. Prolonged sitting and standing. Use of personal computer and telephone (eye and hand strain).
  • Some travel between locations required (own transportation). No regular lifting requirements, occasional lifting up to 35 pounds.
