GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Patient Safety Assistant (PSA) will provide a safe environment for the patient under the direction of the Registered Nurse. Tasks include patient observation, assisting with feeding, bathing, toileting, ambulating, engaging in activities that the patient enjoys i.e. reading, playing cards, etc., and companionship. The PSA will maintain a commitment to the philosophy, mission, and values of the Henry Ford Health System (HFHS). The PSA working the monitor will recognize and report any changes observed to the RN per protocol.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
ADDITIONAL SKILLS REQUIRED (for Tele-Sitting only):
- Ability to communicate effectively with patients using a microphone and headset.
- Ability to communicate with hospital staff and respond quickly to patient changes.
- Ability to use discretion and courtesy when working with patients, visitors, and staff.
- Basic computer operation skills.
- Efficiency in multitasking. Ability to prioritize simultaneous situations.
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED:
- Successful completion of BLS Heartsaver during orientation.
